An answer to this question is found in the Bible.
Let’s take a look at the Old Testament. In Exodus 31:18 is written: “When He had finished speaking with him upon Mount Sinai, He gave Moses the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written by the finger of God. ” God’s Law written on two tablets, expressed basics of cooperation between God and people, and among people.
Deuteronomy 31:9-13 reveals that it was required to read the Law in front of all Israel, “that they may hear and learn and fear the Lord your God, and be careful to observe all the words of this law. ” Their children, who have not known, will hear and learn to fear the Lord your God…”
The book was given for us in its simple, but direct and alive worship of many centuries would connect us into divine unity.
And it was said to Joshua: “This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall study it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success” (Joshua 1:8).
So the Bible is given for us that we will find out God’s will for us, for people.
Moreover, the Bible is given that we will find out The God Himself, His glory and majesty (Psalms 19).
What does the “New Testament” say to us?
“but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name” (John. 30:31).
The Gospel has been written for us, who had never seen Jesus, that we would get a faith. If we did not get faith, it means that the Gospel had not reached its aim. The aim of the New Testament is to make confidence of faith and create a triumfal joy that brings its gratitude to the sky.
The Bible is not a collection of human ideas about the God, it’s His revalation. We are definately at His present, we see Him, we hear his voice. We see the Christ who is dying, we see Him who had resurrected from death and now is alive and eternal.
So, according to the Old and New Testaments, the Lord gave us the Bible that we’ll get know Him , His Son, His will. If we follow His will, we’ll get eternal life.
We should always know that the Bible gives us a possibility to have communication with God and with Jesus Christ.
One of the activist of Christianity in the 3rd century told: “Saint Scripture teaches everybody; we speak with Christ when we pray, listen to Him, and read Saint Scripture. ”
Bible is given for us that we would communicate with Christ, we would have the same relations as had those who were listening to Him, saw and touched Him.
Do you want to see Jesus in the same way as Maria was sitting near his legs and was listening to His words. It’s possible and even not difficult to reach it. “ The message is very close at hand!” Here is the door, here is the reception room, it’s in your open Bible (Romans 10:8).
How can we prove that Bible is the God’s word?
1. Humanity is collapsing and the God’s Word is eternal and steady. “ The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever”( Isaiah 40:8).
For example, the words said by Daniel, and recorded in a book centuries ago and still are subject of interest, and are read all over the world. At the same time powerful states with their cultures and civilizations, that existed in Daniel’s time, and after him, collapsed and nothing was left.
2. Purity and lack of contradiction in the teaching.
Biblical teachings are pure from human misconceptions. There are no contradictions in the books of Bible about teaching of God, basics of morality and the salvation of all people. God’s Law and the Gospel are the main theme of Old and New Testaments. Bible is right even in simple historical narratives. Here are a few examples.
The Bible tells the story about the Flood in Noah’s day. Some people have tried to deny it, claiming that there wasn’t the Deluge and it could not take place. But almost all nations in the world have a legend of the Global Flood and even those who live in America. In these stories are mentioned Noah, the ark, dove, crow, and etc. All this and the recent information of geologists allow making a conclusion that the Deluge had actually taken place.
Recent discoveries of archeology are interesting as well. Researchers found Solomon’s stables, mines and copper foundries. (And earlier some scientists didn’t recognize Solomon as the historic figure).
Some archaelogists argued that they had found evidence that Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and other Patriarchs existed. American archeologist Albright said: “Abraham, Isaac and Jacob no longer seem isolated figures , much less reflection of late Israelite history period. They now appear as true children of their age, bearing the same names, moving about over the same territory, visiting the same town (especially Harran and Nahor), practicing the same customs as their contemporaries”.
Messages of Bible is fully confirmed. It’s said about the King Hezekiah: “he built a resevoir and dug a tunnel to bring water into the city” (2Kings 20:20). Some had denied existence of Hezekiah (and other Israelite Kings) as historical figure. Archeologists found this watercourse and signatures on the wall of whose who dug this tunnel. This script was widely used in Hezekiah’s time.
Many inscription was found in the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus : “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”
It is written that Paul was brought before the tribunal of Gallio (Acts 18:12). Now is confirmed that Gallio lived in the early 50s of the 1st century AD. He was Roman proconsul of Achaia.
John 19:13 says that Pilate sat down on the judge’s seat at a place known as the “Stone Pavement” (special place in the court). French archaeologist L.Vincent drew attention at this word. There could be two suitable places where Pilate stayed: 1) The Palace of King Herod, 2) Castle of Anthony. In the current place was found a platform (Stone of Pavement) during an archeological excavation.
We can find many of such examples. “The Bible is right after all!” – so called German archaeologist’s Werner Keller book that first edition was published in 1955. In a short time of period it has been translated into many languages and published in astronomical quantities. The Bible was right and critics of Bible were confounded.
A great scholar, archaeologist Nelson Glueck wrote regarding this: “There is no archaeological discovery that would be contrary to the biblical evidence.”
Let’s touch language of the Bible. We always should have in mind, that in humanization of Christ (He is the Son of God and a the Son of Man as well), and in the Bible heaven is covered in humans.
E.G White says: “The Lord speaks to human beings in imperfect speech, in order that the degenerate senses, the dull, earthly perception, of earthly beings may comprehend His words. Thus is shown God’s condescension. He gave it through different writers, each having his own individuality, though going over the same history. They do not represent things in just the same style. Each has an experience of his own, and this diversity broadens and deepens the knowledge that is brought out to meet the necessities of varied minds. The writers of the Bible were God’s penmen, not His pen. It is not the words of the Bible that are inspired, but the men that were inspired.” (Selected messages, Chapter 1).
Jesus Christ’s life is described differently in the books of the New Testament, because that each evangelist wrote that what had the biggest impact on him. Learning their testimonies we can see the full picture of the Jesus teachings and life. So there is not contradiction in it.
“Instead of the expressions of the Bible being exaggerated, as many people suppose, the strong expressions break down before the magnificence of the thought, though the penman selected the most expressive language through which to convey the truths of higher education. Sinful beings can only bear to look upon a shadow of the brightness of heaven’s glory.” (Selected messages, Chapter 1).
3. Bible is impartial and fair. It judges fearlessly kings, knights, and the great and simple people. It describes the life of some people as it actually was, with all good, positive facts, as well as bad, and negative.
Such impartiality and fairness of the Bible is a proof of its divine origin.
4. Bible as well as the Son of God is the martyr in the Battle of Truth.
People tried to kill Christ due to the truth; the same was with Bible too. It has been prosecuted through all the ages, but nobody managed to defeat it. It was clothed in sackcloth, reproached by the wicked people in the period of papal persecution; finally it triumphed over all its persecutors (Revelation 11:3-12). There is not an equal book to a book-martyr in the world. People have tried to distort it, but it was useless.
5. Bible’s prophecies solve all the present and future riddles.
The Prophet Isaiah said: “Declare the things that are going to come afterward, that we may know that you are gods”. About the prophecies of Saint Scripture he was saying: “Seek and read from the book of the Lord: not one of these shall be missing; none shall be without her mate. For the mouth of the Lord has commanded…”. (Isaiah 41:21-23.34:16). Bible prophesies were coming true and is coming true now. It is also a proof of its divine origin. Here a few examples.
When Alexander of Great began his conquest in 322 B.C. he passed through Palestine, not far from Jerusalem, he was met by priests of Israel, and they read to him from a book of Daniel about the goat with one horn, who will conquer others and will become more arrogant. And they told to Alexander the Great that this goat represents him, he will have a great success in the future, and this actually came into reality.
Warned by the prophecy, the God’s nation with the help of light clearly understood the emergence of secret wickedness in the face of the papacy and all subsequent events in the history of the Christianity.
6. Bible’s power of renewing humans morality
Bible helps to change people. It is strong to lift people out of the deepest fall and bring them to a clean and moral life. “Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own” (John 7:17). “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).
It shows the way of salvation for everybody of us. One person asked another who has recently find the Christ: “How may you prove that the Bible inspired”? Another person answered: “ Because that it inspires me to do good things”.
There is no other book except the Bible, which could produce such profound moral rebirth in human life, but it’s still alive.
7. People are powerless to destroy the Bible
There were attempts to destroy the Bible through all the ages. Those, who possessed it, were sentenced to death. And despite this, it triumphantly travels around the world. The Bible is extraordinary book. It was being hated and prosecuted more than any other book, nevertheless it wasn’t destroyed. It was contempt and dishonored, some people thought that it’s dead.
Powerful kings and dukes, even the priests made great efforts to destroy its ennobling influence. Scientists tried to reject its teachings, but despite this, they didn’t have any success.
And now the Bible is almost in all languages and the Word is spreading around the world.
So in such way, the Bible itself proves its divine origin.
The true love and the truth comands us to read and study the Bible. Jesus said: “You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me” (John 5:39). Would you listen to Jesus? His Word is in your hands. Open the Bible and read!
We don’t need remarkable demonstration of miracles. The God adresses to us through His Word, through the Bible. And we have access to thi simple, clear and very strong Word of God. It is obtainable to everybody (Luke 16:29-31).
